The Shvetashvatara Upanishad in Swamiji’s Philosophy of Devotion Dr. Arpita Nath, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Sanskrit, Basanti Devi College, Kolkata, West Bengal, India
From the very beginning of civilization, questions arose in the minds of humans about the causality of the world. The identity of mindfulness is the eternal question that arises in the human mind. The theory and information of attaining the eternal truth, that is, liberation or moksha, has been established and well-explained through practice and practice in this great country of India for a long time. By combining the words of the Upanishads and the ideology of Swami Vivekananda, we realize that when the devotion of the human mind is awakened, values gradually develop, which helps in achieving the goal of human evolution. The path of devotion has been recognized by Vedanta and Swamiji as an easier path than the path of knowledge or the path of action to practice values and reach the goal of evolution. Although devotional yoga seems to be relatively new among philosophical theories, its seeds were found in the Vedas. Synonyms of the word devotion are- reverence, worship, faith, constant remembrance, nididhyāsana, saṁrādhana, meditation, affection, love, service etc. According to Śāṇḍilyasūtra, regarding the symptom of devotion is– ‘Sā parānuraktirīśvare’. Such a great man of the nineteenth century was Swami Vivekananda, in whose eyes and thoughts devotional thoughts were propagated in a new way in the society. According to him, ‘sincerely seeking God is Bhakti Yoga’. In Vivekananda’s thought – ‘Bhakti is greatest path among action, knowledge and yoga. The thought of Bhakti observed in the Śvetāśvataropaniṣad has become a manifestation of the New Vedanta. The relevance of the devotionalism was shown by Swamiji in the formation of values in modern society is the essence of my article, which will be discussed in the light of the Śvetāśvataropaniṣad.
